🌿 Our Founder’s Story

Beatrice Anyango Odero is both a nurse and a mother whose life has been profoundly shaped by Sickle Cell Disease (SCD). Having lost two of her sons to the illness and caring for two more who continue to live with it except for her last born, she has faced the realities of SCD both personally and professionally.

Her experiences revealed not only the medical challenges of the disease but also the emotional and social burdens families in Kibera endure. Determined to turn her pain into purpose, Beatrice founded Nia Health Assist as a way to support children, adolescents, and caregivers navigating the same journey.

Through Nia, she has created a safe space where families receive education, care, and empowerment. More than an organization, Nia reflects Beatrice’s vision of a community where no family living with SCD feels isolated or forgotten — and where children can thrive despite the challenges of the disease.
